House at the Beach

Front door of an Oregon beach house with built in chalk board. Cabin design, Cannon beach. Daniel House.

As much as we wish we could take credit for everything you see in these images, we must admit the vast majority of the genius here comes from the mind of Jimmy Onstott, an architect whose work we greatly admire. Beyond the walls of knotty pine trimmed with Doug Fir, the brilliantly incorporated salvage elements like the chalk board front door and prairie school leaded glass partition, and the beautiful chimney stack made, we think, entirely out of stones he coerced his kids into hand picking off the beach, Onstott also assisted with the acquisition of many of the furnishings, including all the rugs and several pieces of vintage Heywood-Wakefield rattan. We just filled in the rest, adding Hawaiian barkcloth curtains and cushions here and bamboo shades there, and a giant collection of authentic Fire King Jadeite and Azur-ite dinnerware for the table. Enjoy!
